If you are ever in the situation where you have to decide whether you want to attend EYP or not I strongly recommend that you do so. Not only does it force you to get out of your comfort zone and overcome your shyness and insecurities but you also get to meet new people, and make really good friends.
You’ll get to learn so much about current topics that you might never have heard of before, I know at least I did. I also know that I had a great time making a fool of myself along with the members of my committee and, by the end of day one, I was completely comfortable with them.
One thing you should know though is that you won’t get much sleep (and if you’re serious about EYP you probably won’t want to anyway). During those three days, I got around three hours of proper sleep but it was all worth it in the end. You’ll leave this event with so many good memories that you’ll be emotional and teary-eyed when it ends. Yes, even after just three days.
I know it might seem intimidating but it’s worth it. It does take a bit of research to fully understand the topics you’ll be discussing but you won’t be alone in that journey, as you will always have the support of your fellow delegates and chair in every situation. Just go for it and enjoy it as much as you can!
